Cascade River Restoration and Two Jack interpretive site.

This proposal identified the tactical direction for the restoration of the Cascade River in Banff National Park and outlined a vision for interpretation facilities as well as programming.

The plan was developed in accordance with Parks Canada’s goals of heritage resource conservation, visitor experience, and public appreciation and understanding (Parks Canada). It is intended to outline options for the abandoned Cascade Power Plant site, and to provide details regarding a restoration plan that will protect the unique natural and cultural heritage of the park, restore native aquatic species and vegetation, and provide for a memorable Canadian mountain experience.

This proposal included two suggested strategies for the restoration of the Cascade Creek, a detailed overview of the Two Jack Trail, and an interpretive centre for the outlined geographic area. It also included several performance indicators that will allow Parks Canada to measure, report, and make alterations over a period of time. The development of this plan included a physical inspection of the study area where appropriate width-depth ratios were established, and a comparative benchmark against which the proposed site should model. A critical review of existing projects has also been included.
