Cascade Interpretive Center Proposal.

The Banff Field Unit identified a decommissioned Trans Alta power plant as a potential site for a new interpretative centre. The interpretative centre is part of the Cascade Restoration Project that includes fish species and river restoration of the Cascade River, rehabilitation of the Cascade gravel pit, and the potential development of an interpretative centre located 1km from Lake Minnewanka.

This report is a developmental proposal of the Cascade Interpretative Centre. The report begins with a brief history of the Lake Minnewanka area, the Trans Alta hydro company’s involvement in BNP, and an overview of the Cascade Restoration Project. The report established the significance of an interpretative centre as a key component of the Cascade River Restoration Project and discussed building design considerations, site development ideas, interpretative programs and educational opportunities, funding options and partnerships, and project challenges.
